According to Vietnamese media reports, Vietnamese durian has just started to be picked and the purchase price has reached VND55,000/kg, equivalent to about RMB15.5/kg, up 35%-40% compared to the same period last year.

Durian in the Mekong Delta region started to ripen in late April. The purchase price of durian in Tien Giang and Hau Giang provinces was VND50,000-55,000/kg, up VND10,000-15,000/kg compared to the same period last year, and the retail price of durian in Ho Chi Minh City rose 60-70% compared to the same period last year.
 
Among them, the retail price of Ri6 variety of durian reached VND110,000/kg, about $31/kg. Despite this, not many Ri6 durians are available in the market. The retail price of Ri6 durian in fruit stores even reached VND130,000-150,000/kg, up 25% compared to the same period last year. The main reason is that the cost of growing and selling durian has increased, and in some places, the cost of transportation has increased by 50%.
 
As it is still the early stage of the durian production season in Vietnam, the lack of supply has also led to the price increase. In Tien Giang province, durian is grown on more than 14,000 hectares with an annual output of 277,000 tons. However, the limited amount of durian ripening at the beginning of the season has led to an increase in purchase prices. Although the price of Vietnamese durian is currently high, the fruit such as durian has been heavily dependent on exports to China. The export situation is still uncertain and there may be a risk of stagnation if the export of durian is hampered during the peak marketing period.
