Vietnam's Basa Fish Exports Hit Record High. For more information on export to China, please call SINOLOBEN, service Email: sinoloben@sloben.com.
Dec. 2021, Vietnam’s basa fish exports reached 83,070 tonnes, up from 78,661 tonnes in Nov. and 68,703 tonnes in Oct., making it the largest month for exports in 2021.
Since April 2021, Vietnam’s basa fish exports to China have seen a sharp drop, mainly due to China’s enhanced inspection of frozen seafood, delays in customs clearance of goods, and increased costs for both Vietnamese exporters and Chinese importers. However, from the 4th. quarter, China has increased imports of Vietnamese basa fish, with monthly sales rising to 29,000 tonnes in Dec. from 8,500 tonnes in Sep.
Despite the challenges, China will remain the largest buyer of Vietnamese basa fish in 2022, said The Vietnam Association of Seafood Export and Production (VASEP). But the cost of shipping basa fish to China is expected to double in the new year due to persistent shortages of containers, rising freight rates and more difficult customs clearance at Chinese ports.
On the other hand, supply uncertainty and higher prices could keep basa fish off many restaurant menus in China. Due to supply and price advantages, restaurants may eventually replace Vietnamese basa fish with native Chinese varieties.
Chinese industry insiders predict that Cambodian basa fish may replace some Vietnamese one to enter the Chinese market due to the cost increase.

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Export and Production (VASEP) expects growth in Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Russia and Egypt to accelerate in 2022, compensating for a small decline in sales in China and the European Union.
