Russia is seeking the introduction of quotas and tariffs on grain exports from the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, Russian newspaper Kommersant reported.
Russia presented the initiative at a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission held on May 20. The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation believes that this measure is necessary to prevent the re-export of Russian grain through the Eurasian Economic Union bypassing restrictions.
Kommersant sources say that currently Belarus has a total ban on wheat exports. Armenia and Kyrgyzstan are preparing to make a decision on the imposition of tariffs and implementation of quotas, while Kazakhstan opposes the imposition of tariffs.
The newspaper noted that Kazakhstan may refuse to implement restrictive measures, which would prompt the Ministry of Agriculture to extend the temporary ban on grain exports to the Eurasian Economic Union.
