Russian importers have started importing wine from China, India and Turkey, Kommersant reports, citing two major wine distributors, Ladoga and Luding.
Dmitry Isachenkov, director of development at Ladoga, said.
"Next, the commodity matrix will continue to grow in volume, which will benefit from the active search for new partners, including reliance on China, Brazil and India, which are located among friendly countries."
He noted that "the vast majority of current foreign suppliers are willing to continue supplying and want to continue working with Russia."
Luding marketing director Andrey Ushakov told Kommersant that the company is also in talks with Chinese as well as Turkish wine producers and that a decision to import wine to them may be made in the near future. He noted that all market players are trying to find good-value wines, which is why traders are considering these regions, where there is a greater possibility of finding cost-effective wines. In addition, suppliers are expanding the share of domestic beverages.
Ladoga also said that companies are looking to diversify their purchases to reduce the risk that may arise when importing foreign products encounters difficulties. The European Union in March restricted the supply of beverages to Russia that cost more than 300 euros per bottle, but the ban only covers a small number of products, mainly some wines and champagnes that are not often drunk.
