According to Peruvian agricultural media Agraria reported, Peruvian avocado producers association (ProHass) President Juan Carlos Paredes Rosales said that the Peruvian Hass avocado exports in 2022 will reach 515,000 tons, an increase of 6.6% over the 483,000 tons in 2021.

 
According to the report, this year Peruvian avocado exports will last from January to October. In fact, the harvest of avocados in mountainous areas only begins in October-November, which means that Peru can produce avocados all year round. As of the 17th week of the year (April 24), Peru has exported a total of 4,578 containers of avocados. Based on 21.5 tons of avocado per container, the export volume has exceeded 98,000 tons.
 
The main market for Peruvian Hass avocados is Europe, which accounts for 70% of the total exports. Since the U.S. market is almost devoid of Mexican and California avocados this year, ProHass expects Peruvian Hass avocado shipments to the U.S. to increase by 10-25%. In addition, forecasts indicate that the Japanese market is expected to grow by about 30%.
 
In the first quarter of 2022, the price of Peruvian Hass avocados on the international market declined by about 30% compared to 2021. 4 kg boxes of avocados cost 8-9 euros in Europe, showing a significant decrease from 11-12 euros the previous year. The Asian market, which has reached a maximum of 60 days in transit due to the logistics crisis, is very volatile, with prices ranging between 50-300$ per case.
 
The area planted with Hass avocados in Peru has been growing steadily in recent years. 50,699 hectares of Hass avocados were planted in Peru in 2021, an increase of 15% compared to 44,128 hectares in the previous year, and nearly double the expansion from 2015.
