Official Paraguayan data show that exports of pork, pig offal and mince plummeted in the first half of this year, with exports down 65% in volume and 63% in value year-on-year.

 
Paraguayan newspaper El País reported on July 10 that the National Service for Animal Quality and Health (Senacsa) reported that in the first half of this year, Paraguayan exports of pork, pig offal and miscellaneous mince totaled 935 tons, including 366 tons of pork and 569 tons of pig offal and miscellaneous mince, with total exports of pork products down 65 percent from 2,660 tons in the same period in 2021. During the same period, exports of pork products amounted to US$1.7 million, a decrease of 63% compared to US$4.7 million in 2021.
 
Senacsa data show that 80% of Paraguay's pork product exports were sold to Uruguay, followed by Georgia with 17%. Armenia is a new market for Paraguayan pork products, with a 3% share.
 
According to the Paraguayan Association of Pig Producers (APPC), the impact of the Russian-Uruguayan conflict has hit several domestic industries in Paraguay, and exports of pork products have fallen. At the same time, countries such as the United States and Brazil, where the prices of pork products are highly competitive, have seized the Paraguayan market. Not only Paraguayan pork product exports are down, but other countries in the Latin American region are also experiencing a similar situation.

APPC emphasizes that increasing the export of Paraguayan pork products requires the development of new export markets. Currently, Ecuador has expressed interest in purchasing pork products from Paraguay, and the two countries are designing trade transport routes. In addition, in May this year, Taiwan sent commissioners to inspect the health of Paraguayan pork, and Paraguay is now waiting for access to the Taiwanese market.
