Following beverages and
instant noodles, ice cream products have become one of the most rapidly
developing products in China's food import and export industry in recent
years.
Data shows, China's ice cream imports in 2020 totaled
US$92.041 million. Although affected by the pandemic, it decreased by
10.4% y/y compared to 2019; however, the value of ice cream exports
totaled US$48.304 million, a year-on-year increase of 61.9%.
From
the perspective of import volume, in 2020, China's largest import
source of ice cream is France, with a total import volume of over 37
million US dollars; followed by New Zealand, with a total import volume
of approximately 13.5 million US dollars.
In terms of export
value, the largest export destination of China’s ice cream in 2020 is
Indonesia, with an export value of 16.769 million US dollars, accounting
for 34.7% of the total export value; followed by the Philippines, with
an export value of 15.09 million US dollars, accounting for 31.2% of the
total export value. The export value to Australia can reach 6.516
million US dollars, accounting for 13.5% of the total export value.
In
terms of import volume, the top three sources of China's ice cream
imports in 2020 are France, New Zealand and South Korea, with imports of
approximately 6,500 tons, 3,100 tons, and 2,600 tons, respectively.
In
terms of export volume, the top three destination countries for China's
ice cream export volume in 2020 are Indonesia, the Philippines and
Australia, with exports of approximately 13,300 tons; 10,600 tons and
4570 tons.
It is particularly worth mentioning that China has
become Indonesia's largest ice cream supplier. Indonesia has the fourth
largest population in the world, with a population of approximately 270
million. In 2015, China exported ice cream to Indonesia for the first
time. In 2020, China’s ice cream exports to Indonesia accounted for
71.4% of the country’s imports and 49.9% of the country’s imports.
