France Taking Back #1 in Chinese Imported Wine Market. For more information on export to China, please call SINOLOBEN, service Email: sinoloben@sloben.com.
According to China’s Customs Authority data base, from Jan. to May 2021, France exported ca. 42.33-million-liter wine to China, totaled 1.63 billion RMB. Meanwhile, Australia exports only 4.4-million-liter litres of wine to China with 296 million RMB.
Currently, French, Chilean, Spanish and Italian wines are among the top sources of imported wine in China, while Australian wines have fallen far below the top 10. France exports the most wine to China among other exporters.
Before the recent sharp drop, Australia was the top source of wine exports to China, with a market share of 37 percent, well ahead of France at 27 percent, Chile at 13 percent and Italy at 6 percent.
Businesses can still import Australian wine for sure, but with imposed anti-dumping and countervailing tariffs there are no profits in selling it. Chinese wine traders are accelerating their search for new alternatives to Australian wine to fend off future risks of uncertainty in trade tensions. French and Chilian wines are on the top list of Chinese wine importers who used to import from Australia.
