Canadian Beef Imports Allegedly Halted by China. For more information on export to China, please call SINOLOBEN, service Email: sinoloben@sloben.com.
The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association confirmed Tuesday that China has halted imports of beef from Canada following the discovery of an atypical case of BSE, or mad cow disease, on an Alberta farm last month. The Philippines has also suspended imports. While South Korea has already suspended the imports of Canadian last month right after the BSE case report.
Last fall, Brazil voluntarily suspended the beef exports to China after that country reported a case of the atypical strain. That closure lasted three months.
China, worlds largest beef imports and consumption country, imports approximately $170 million of Canadian beef annually.
Till now, China’s authorities, Ministry of Commerce and General Administration of Customs haven’t issued any announcement on the Canadian beef imports ban.
